Project: Spectroscopy of Atmospheric Processes using a Terahertz Quantum Cascade Laser

With terahertz spectroscopy, the rotational and vibrational activity of a molecule is studied.  The focus of my PhD is to develop a highly sensitivity spectrometer with the ability to measure gas-phase molecules and reactions in the terahertz region, with a particular focus on climate change phenomena. To do so will require incorporating cavity enhanced techniques to detect trace-gases.
