Delivering climate insight to the National Wealth Fund
The transition to a net zero economy will require significant investment in industry and infrastructure. Such investment relies on finance, which is typically undersupplied and can be hard to mobilise.
The National Wealth Fund (NWF) is equipped with the products, expertise, mandate, and risk capital to catalyse private capital most effectively. Capitalised with nearly £28bn, it will unlock private investment to finance key areas of this transition, including green hydrogen, carbon capture, ports, gigafactories and green steel.
The NWF’s investments must meet a triple criterion: tackling climate change and driving growth; generating a positive financial return; and mobilising private finance.
In its continued commitment to tackling climate change, the NWF invited the Priestley Centre to deliver an insight masterclass exploring the current state of the climate, potential climate futures and how the NWF can play a key role in securing a sustainable future.
Following the session our employees now have greater insight into the latest climate science to inform our work helping to support the Government’s clean energy mission
Colleagues from across the NWF had a unique opportunity to ask questions of one of the country’s leading climate scientists, Piers Forster, Director for the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures and Interim Chair of the Climate Change Commission.
It was great to see science coming together with practice and kickstarting a broader conversation on how climate insights can inform investment decision making
