EarthScale: First Cohort

On 7 September, EarthScale, a new national initiative to support the scaling of deep-tech climate solutions, closed its first call for applicants. We received outstanding applications from ambitious scaleups working on innovations such as new materials, energy storage, water treatment and management, climate modelling, and ocean farming.

The EarthScale team, formed by experts from six UK universities (Imperial College London, Nottingham, Exeter, Derby, Cranfield, and the University of Leeds through the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures), is now shortlisting the strongest candidates for interview. Up to 20 climate start-ups will be selected to form the programme’s first cohort.

Over the next three years, EarthScale will support more than 60 ventures, helping them bridge the gap from prototype to scalable production and move from initial funding to commercial deployment. Universities will play a critical role in advancing these deep-tech climate innovations, de-risking technologies, and attracting investment. The EarthScale network positions universities as anchor points and catalysts for innovation.
